Aerosmith has announced they are stepping away from touring due to lead singer Steven Tyler’s ongoing vocal injury.
“Steven’s voice is a unique and irreplaceable instrument. Despite months of dedicated effort and the best medical care, it’s become clear that a full recovery is not possible,” the official Aerosmith Instagram account shared on Friday, August 2. “As a result, we have made the difficult decision to retire from touring.”
The statement continued: “It has been an incredible honor to have our music be part of your lives. From intimate clubs to large arenas, you’ve given our music a special place in your hearts.”
The band—comprising Tyler, Joe Perry, Tom Hamilton, Brad Whitford, and Joey Kramer—expressed their gratitude to fans, team, and crew for their support. “Thank you to the best fans on the planet. Play our music loud, now and always. Dream On. You’ve helped make our dreams come true.”
Fans quickly offered their support in the comments. “Thank you for 50 years of incredible rock ‘n’ roll,” wrote one user, while another added, “Sad news. Best wishes to Steven, Joe, and the rest of the band. Your legendary music lives on!”
This announcement follows Tyler’s revelation that he fractured his larynx in September 2023. The band had previously postponed their Peace Out: The Farewell Tour after discovering the extent of Tyler’s injury.
“Unfortunately, Steven’s vocal injury is more serious than initially thought. His doctor has confirmed that, in addition to damage to his vocal cords, he has fractured his larynx, which requires ongoing care,” the band announced at the time. “He is receiving top medical treatment, but given the nature of a fracture, a full recovery will take time and patience.”
In February, Tyler discussed his recovery while hosting his annual Jam for Janie Grammys viewing party, noting, “My throat’s been improving, but it’s still on the mend.”
Tyler made his first return to the stage since his injury in May when he surprised fans at a Black Crowes concert in London, performing a duet of Aerosmith’s “Mama Kin” with lead singer Chris Robinson.
