Nicolas Cage’s eldest son, Weston Cage Coppola, recently addressed his mother Christina Fulton’s claims that he needs “help” following an alleged assault.

When approached by TMZ outside a Los Angeles courthouse on Wednesday, July 31, Cage Coppola, 33, responded with, “She needs help,” referring to his mother, 57.

Earlier that day, Cage Coppola pleaded not guilty to a charge of assault with a deadly weapon. This charge stems from an incident in April where Fulton claimed that Cage Coppola physically attacked her while she was trying to assist him during what she described as a mental health crisis.

TMZ inquired about any reconciliation between Cage Coppola and his mother, but he did not comment. Fulton also spoke to TMZ after the court appearance, expressing her hope that her son would get the necessary help but refraining from further discussing their relationship.

On July 10, Us Weekly reported that Cage Coppola, who is the only child of Cage, 60, and Fulton, was taken into custody by the LAPD Fugitives Department in connection with the April incident.

Fulton, who was present during the altercation, shared her account with Us Weekly earlier this month.

“On April 28th, 2024, around 5:30 p.m., I received urgent messages from friends about my son Weston Cage’s deteriorating mental state and was asked to come assist him,” Fulton explained. “When I arrived, he was already in a state of manic rage.”

Fulton described her son’s sudden change in behavior upon her arrival, which she says led to the alleged assault. “I was assaulted and sustained significant injuries,” she stated.

Fulton provided photos to Us Weekly showing facial bruising and a swollen jaw, which she claims were the result of the incident. Despite her injuries, she said she tried to prevent her son from being jailed, urging police officers at the scene to arrange for a mental health evaluation for Cage Coppola. She alleged that her requests were ignored, and no medical assistance was provided.

Fulton’s lawyer, Allen Sepanyan, also alleged that an ambulance was not called and that medical attention was not given at the scene.

Fulton concluded by expressing deep concern for her son’s mental health and emphasizing the need for professional help.

In a statement to Us Weekly on July 11, Cage Coppola dismissed the notion that he is in urgent need of help, calling the reports inaccurate.

After his arrest, Cage Coppola was released on $150,000 bail. Following his court appearance on Wednesday, a judge issued a protective order for Fulton. Cage Coppola is scheduled to return to court in September.

Nicolas Cage has not publicly commented on the situation. Cage and Fulton, who welcomed Cage Coppola in December 1990, separated shortly after. Cage later had a son, Kal-El, with his third wife, Alice Kim, whom he divorced in 2016. He married Riko Shibata in February 2021, and they have a daughter, August, born in 2022.
